A forest in the Harz Mountains, Germany during the winter, sun peeking through the trees

Mercer Holz Annual Inventory 2021

As traditionally done during the first working week of each year, the annual inventory of logs in the forest and field took place in 2021. For the inventory, the amount of wood recorded in the books is checked for consistency with the existing quantities in the forest.

For this purpose, eleven inventory teams consisting of timber buyers, colleagues from the office, and some external auditors set out on January 5 to drive through dozens of wood piles between the Bavarian Forest and Hamburg to measure and count the wood.

Of course, the corona-related AHA rules applied during the entire process: teams will maintain physical distance, follow best hygiene practices, and wear a mask every day. These precautions ensured safe work for all.

Some of the inventory teams were rewarded with a beautifully snow-covered winter landscape, as seen in the provided pictures by our Mercer Holz wood buyer, Jakob Gieseler, in Lower Saxony.

This year’s inventory once again demonstrated that Mercer Holz’ timber inventory management and record keeping are exemplary.
