The role. We have an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Predictive Maintenance Technician in the Maintenance Department.  The Predictive Maintenance Technician position is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting industrial machinery and mechanical equipment with the intention of continuously improving equipment performance and reliability.  

Role and Responsibilities:

• Vibration Data Collection: Regularly collect vibration data from critical machinery and equipment using various monitoring tools and equipment.
• Data Analysis: Analyze vibration data to detect abnormal patterns or deviations from baseline measurements. Identify potential issues or anomalies that could impact equipment reliability.
• Condition Monitoring: Steward and participate in MPR’s condition monitoring program to track the health of equipment, including motors, pumps, fans, and other rotating machinery.
• Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports and documentation of vibration analysis findings. Communicate results to relevant departments and management, highlighting potential risks and recommended actions.
• Fault Diagnosis: Diagnose immediate causes of abnormal vibrations and work closely with maintenance teams to determine root cause through analysis and apply corrective actions.
• Recommendations: Provide recommendations for maintenance, repair, or replacement of equipment based on vibration analysis findings. Collaborate with maintenance teams to prioritize and plan maintenance activities.
• Monitoring Trends: Continuously monitor trends in vibration data to predict potential failures or issues before they occur. Use data to support predictive maintenance strategies.
• Data Management: Maintain organized and secure records of vibration data, analysis reports, and historical trends for reference and analysis purposes.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, including maintenance, engineering, and operations, to ensure that vibration analysis aligns with overall mill objectives and reliability initiatives.
• Training and Development: Stay current with advancements in vibration analysis techniques and tools. Provide training and knowledge sharing to team members and relevant personnel.
• Health, Safety, and Environment: Ensure that work activities adhere to all safety, environmental, and compliance standards at Mercer Peace River. Participate and support MPR’s Mission Zero values.
• Provide shift coverage and SWAT (Scheduled Weekend Coverage and Overtime Call-ins as required). 
• Provide coverage in the department when necessary
• Additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Level II Vibration Analyst Certification is considered an asset.
• Experience working in a condition monitoring role within a complex industrial environment is considered an asset.
• Experience with the root cause failure analysis process is considered an asset.
• Proficiency in using vibration analysis equipment and or condition monitoring software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
• Pulp Mill and Industrial Maintenance experience is considered an asset.
• Competency in reading and understanding technical documents including drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
• Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of maintenance and reliability best practices.
• Proven safety conscious, team oriented individual with the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (Avantis) is considered an asset.
• Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) or Machinist certificate considered an asset
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including working at heights, confined space, and extreme climate conditions (+40 to -40 degrees Centigrade with various levels of humidity and noise).

Summary

The Predictive Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of machinery and equipment at MPR. By monitoring and analyzing vibration data, this role contributes to the prevention of unplanned downtime and the optimization of maintenance efforts, ultimately supporting MPR’s Five Pillars (Safety, People, Reliability, Responsibility, Profitability).

• Compensation is based on experience, qualifications and competency with a starting hourly rate range of $34.69-$60.03, plus a 5% Average Regular Premium (ARP). You will also start with three weeks (120 hours) of annual vacation, prorated based on your start date.
