Position Description Reporting to the Director, External Reporting, the Senior External Reporting Accountant will be a key member of the external reporting team and will work closely with other finance teams within the company. The Senior External Reporting Accountant will assist with the preparation of the company’s statutory reports, monthly/quarterly management reports, accounting policies, technical accounting research projects and various month/quarter-end tasks. In addition, the Senior External Reporting Accountant will contribute to process improvement and other ad-hoc projects as required. This position will also support other team members and liaise with the mills’ finance teams. This position is well suited for a professional with a financial reporting or auditing background who is well organized, proactive and detail oriented. Responsibilities Prepare the 10K, 10Q, earnings release including the financial statements and footnotes (U.S. GAAP) and management’s discussion and analysis. Prepare the quarterly and annual financial statement disclosure checklists. Review XBRL tagging. Lead the quarterly consolidated variance analysis, write-up and presentation. Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports for senior management and the board. Prepare and implement corporate-wide accounting policies. Perform technical accounting research on complex accounting issues, as required, and write accounting memos. Monitor and research new accounting and regulatory disclosure pronouncements. Liaise with the mill finance teams on accounting policy and complex accounting matters. Preparation of the annual combined statements for Canadian entities. Assist the Internal Audit teams with preparing and reviewing Sarbanes Oxley documentation. Willingness to learn and being proactive in recommending process improvements. Qualifications and Experience CPA designation with at least 4 to 6 years of experience A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a public accounting firm would be advantageous but not required Knowledge and experience with preparing or auditing public company financial statements and footnote disclosures under U.S. GAAP or IFRS. Experience with technical accounting research, analysis, and writing position papers. Working knowledge of financial reporting software would be considered an asset (e.g., LucaNet). Ability to work independently and as a strong team player. High degree of attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. A high level of proficiency with Excel. Salary & Benefits The salary for this position is $90,000 – $100,000. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
