Position Description

Reporting to the Finger Joint Supervisor, the Finger Joint Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of machinery within the Finger Joint Line to support high-quality lumber production. This role plays a key part in maintaining consistent product standards, minimizing equipment downtime, and ensuring safe, steady production flow.

This position reports to the Mercer Conway, Inc. facility, located at 1800 Sturgis Rd – Conway, AR 72034.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain equipment including the lamella planer and profile cutter heads located in the Finger Joint Line area, ensuring safe and efficient operation
  • Collaborate with the Finger Joint Supervisor and Area Team Lead to support production flow, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate supply needs
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with safety procedures, demonstrating full understanding of lockout/tagout protocols, safety switches, and emergency stop systems
  • Learn and operate required software systems such as System TM, FlowMate, Google Suite, and Windows-based platforms
  • Conduct quality checks on lumber before and after planning to ensure compliance with standards
  • Keep work areas clean and organized to support safety and efficiency
  • Remain on feet (walking/standing) for the duration of the shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Prior experience as a machine operator (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of machinery operation and basic maintenance
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on product quality
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and address operational issues
  • Willingness and ability to learn new processes, software, and equipment
