Position Description

Mercer Celgar is hiring a Maintenance Supervisor for the afternoon shift. This position is accountable for the safe and efficient execution of all routine and non-routine maintenance tasks within their maintenance group, and ensures effective and efficient completion of work in line with outlined roles and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing Mercer Celgar’s maintenance trade activities.
• Promotes a safe working environment and safe work practices.
• Responsible for the overall effectiveness of the execution of maintenance by their respective crew of craft employees.
• Ensures work force effectiveness by minimizing the potential for delays and by setting expectations for quality and timeliness of work execution. 
• Keenly aware of training needs of their individual crew members and seeks to deliver the needed training not only in the subject matters, but also in safety, and organisation skills.
• Participates in the effective communication between operations, engineering, reliability and maintenance.
• Overseeing the maintenance resources with a focus on costs, efficiency and time on tools.
• Maintaining and improving the mill reliability by ensuring quality workmanship.
• Focus on preventive maintenance to detect and resolve problems before they arise.
• Working with contractors as appropriate, but maintaining the priority for using own resources as stipulated by the collective agreement.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Technical background in either Mechanical disciplines (ie, Trade Ticket, C. Tech, C.E.T., or B. Eng) or related experience.
• Minimum 2-3 years’ supervisory experience in industrial, unionized environments.
• Knowledge of planning and scheduling within a CMMS.
• Experience with and knowledge of maintenance best practices including precision maintenance.
• Demonstrated ability with employee coaching, training and development.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Capable of dealing with conflict management, and a good understanding of employee relations.

Salary

The salary for this position is $103,000 – $155,000. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
