10,000 euro for Emergency and Disaster Relief in Western Germany

Arneburg, August 18, 2021 – The images of the flood disaster in July in the regions of Nordhrein-Westfalen and Rheinland-Pfalz of Western Germany caused great concern among the employees of Mercer Stendal and Mercer Holz at the Arneburg site. Memories of the Elbe floods and damages done to the area in 2013 rushed back, evoking a sense of empathy and solidarity – thus, a fundraising campaign was launched between the two Mercer companies. In just one month, 10,000 euros have been collected in total.

“We are very proud of our employees who took the initiative and called for the fundraising campaign at the pulp mill,” said André Listemann, Managing Director of Mercer Stendal, at the presentation of the donation. “For us, it was no question to participate and help in the campaign as a company as well.”

The employees of Mercer Holz, the company which handles raw material purchasing for the pulp mill, also participated. “Through a virtual account via the ‘Aktion Deutschland hilft’ charity fund, 1,910 euro in donations were collected by employees of both companies. A cash collection was held at the same time, amounting to 430 euro,” reported Wolfgang Beck, Managing Director of Mercer Holz, on the results of the fundraising campaign, which lasted about four weeks.

The two companies are now adding to the employee-donated total of 2,340 euros, bringing the final donation total by Mercer to 10,000 euro. “The funds will now be made available to those affected by ‘Aktion Deutschland hilft’,” Listemann explained.

“We would like to thank all of our employees who contributed to doing something good,” added Beck.
