Mercer in Rosenthal for 30 Years

Rosenthal am Rennsteig/Germany, August 2, 2024 – Mercer Rosenthal celebrates an anniversary. The 30th anniversary of the acquisition by Mercer International from the Treuhand. This significant event will be commemorated at a festive event on Thursday, 8 August 2024.

Mercer Rosenthal is expecting numerous guests from business and politics. Thuringia’s Minister President Bodo Ramelow and Thuringia’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society, Wolfgang Tiefensee, will be welcomed as guests of honour at the anniversary celebrations.

After German reunification, the former Rosenthal pulp and paper mill (ZPR) was taken into the care of the Treuhand. A race against time began, as the Treuhandanstalt itself was to be dissolved in 1994 and companies that could not be privatised by then were to be closed down.

Several attempts at privatisation were unsuccessful and the closure of the company seemed inevitable by 1993.

Mercer International, however, recognised the potential of the site and acquired the then ZPR from the Treuhand in December 1994. This was a stroke of luck for the company, its employees and the neighbouring communities.

Today, Mercer Rosenthal can look back on a 30-year success story. And the company has clear plans for the future and for the further development of the mill.
