Empowering Future Talent: Mercer Stendal’s Innovative Trainee Camp

At Mercer Stendal, a leading kraft pulp producer and operator of Germany’s largest solid biomass power plant in Arneburg, we are committed to cultivating the next generation of professionals. Our dedication to nurturing young talent is evident in our innovative training programs designed to provide new professionals with the best possible start to their careers.

From July 31 to August 2, Mercer Stendal hosted a transformative three-day trainee camp in Bad Saarow, offering our twelve new trainees a unique opportunity to jumpstart their careers. The camp was crafted to foster connections beyond the workplace, build strong team dynamics, and prepare our future leaders for the challenges ahead.

Fostering Collaboration and Team Spirit through Dynamic Experiences

An experienced team of trainers, including Lisa Wechsung, Ronny Kamer, and Lars Lewi, along with the chairman of the youth and trainee representation and senior apprentices, guided the newcomers throughout the camp. They provided invaluable mentorship and support, ensuring a memorable and impactful experience for all participants.

The program featured a variety of activities designed to promote collaboration, resilience, and teamwork. Trainees engaged in raft building, bike tours, a high ropes course, and shared cooking sessions. These experiences strengthened their ability to work together and encouraged them to challenge themselves and support one another in overcoming obstacles.

Learning from Leadership: Insights from the Plant Manager

A highlight of the camp was an informal barbecue with Plant Manager Dr. Martin Zenker. In this relaxed setting, trainees had the unique opportunity to engage directly with senior leadership, exchange ideas, and gain valuable insights into their daily work and future careers.

“The chance to connect with our plant manager in such an informal setting was invaluable,” remarked one trainee. “It gave us a deeper understanding of our roles within the company and how we can contribute to its success.”

Our Commitment to Professional and Personal Growth

Lisa Wechsung, who oversees training and marketing at Mercer Stendal, emphasized the importance of the trainee camp in the company’s training philosophy:

“At Mercer Stendal, success is built on collaboration and trust. From day one, we aim to instill these values in our trainees, fostering their professional and personal development.”

The trainee camp is a cornerstone of Mercer Stendal’s approach to training. It is designed to ease the transition of young professionals into their roles and encourage personal growth and development. The camp helps trainees recognize their strengths, address areas for improvement through teamwork, and begin their careers with confidence and energy.
